Long-tailed duck, a northern sea duck, – only the drake (above) has a long tail.
Above centre and right is the spring wardrobe; both genders have very different winter and summer plumage.
The female long-tailed duck doesn't have a long tail.
A diving duck, they spend a long time under water.
Their breeding grounds are in Eurasian and American Artic coasts and Tundra. Their
wintering areas are further south but around coasts of northern Eurasia and northern America.
