American Black Duck Anas rubripes

The American Black Duck from North America is like a very dark female Mallard but without distinct white borders to the blue speculum. Duck and drake have similar plumage but the drake's bill, like the Mallard, is yellow, while the female's is pale greenish blue. Population has declined massively by hunting, by habitat drainage and by hybridisation with the closely-related Mallard.
