Despite the scientific name Patagioenas, the White-crowned Pigeon is native to several
Caribbean islands and the Caribbean coast of Central America and the tip of Florida.
Male and female have similar plumage but males have a brighter white crown and females a greyish white.
Juveniles have reddish-brown plumage with areas of slate blue-grey and don't yet have the white crown,
pale yellow eyes or iridescent green neck.
They are threatened by deforestation and disturbance of nesting and feeding areas in some regions but are important
for dispersal of seeds and fruits.
