The flashy Nicobar Pigeon has a grey head with flowing plumes and iridescent green and blue back and wing plumage with orange petrol highlights plus a white tail.
Flocks fly between the Nicobar Islands, Andaman Islands and some Indonesian islands eating fruit and seeds, mainly on the ground.
The population suffered from the 2004 Asian Tsunami.
A large pigeon, males are larger and flashier than females. Males also have larger lumps on their beaks.
Although they don't look at all alike, it is said that Nicobars (and Crowned Pigeons) are the closest living relatives of Dodos.
Juveniles don't have the fancy plumes.
