The Lesser Bird of Paradise is native to forests of northern New Guinea.
The male Lesser Bird of Paradise (above) has an iridescent green face with pale cream hood, rufous brown body and wings,
bright yellow plumes with white ends in breeding plumage, like his Greater relative. He is some 32cm long compared to 43cm for the Greater
and he has a creamy shoulder mantle.
The female is is brown with a white underside, unlike the plain brown Greater female.
Males raise the plumes in fancy display dances when courting.
