The male Twelve-wired Bird of Paradise (above) is native to New Guinea and Indonesia's West Papua. He has a strange array of
"wires" protruding from his soft yellow rump. When he dances to court a female, he raises his black neck-ruff and splits his
yellow lower body plumage into two halves with 6 "wires" dangling from each half.
The female has a rufous brown back, barred buff front and black head and neck.
