The Green Oropendola is native to tropical rainforests of much of northern South America.
A prehistoric-looking bird, both male and female have mainly greenish plumage with russet lower back
and rear underside and yellow-edged tail. They have blue eyes and a long, pointed, horn-coloured beak with a distinctive orange tip.
They reach some 40cm long. Diet is whole fruits/berries (dispersing seeds) and invertebrates.
They do not form monogamous pairs. A dominant male in a colony may father most of the chicks.
There will be several long, pendulous, bag-shaped nests suspended from high tree branches in a colony, built by the females (unlike weavers' nests).
