The Yucatan Jay, as its name indicates, is a jay native to Mexico's Yucatan peninsula an also to southern Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.
These photos were taken by Alexandra Makhnina in Yucatan.
Male and female have similar appearance. The adult jay has black plumage and bill with cyan blue wings and tail and yellow legs. They are gregarious birds.
The young juvenile jay has white/grey body plumage with blue wings/tail and yellow beak, eye-rings and legs.
The body plumage moults to black at around two months but the yellow beak and eye-rings are retained by the older juvenile for the next few months (over winter).
The juvenile also has white flecks in its under-tail rather than the all black adult under-tail.
