The Sulawesi Ground Dove, also called the Yellow-breasted, is native to Indonesia.
It has a gold brow, blue crown and burgundy red neck markings.
Male and female have similar plumage, the female being very slightly duller. It is the largest dove in the
Gallicolumba ground dove genus and spends most of its life on the ground. There are 3 subspecies differentiated mainly by
the amount of yellow on the breast, the burgundy marks and size/location. Above right is G. t. bimaculata of southern
Sulawesi with two red neck spots.
Previously called the Celebes Ground Dove, the bird's name was changed when the islands' name changed to Sulawesi.
