The White-browed Coucal is a member of the cuckoo family native to East Africa. It has 4 subspecies over its range
and is closely related to other coucals in its genus in other parts of Africa.
Male and female adults have similar plumage of russet back/wings, white underside and brow,
black head/face, beak and legs and red eyes. Some of the flank and underside feathers are striped and hawklike.
Juveniles lack the white. With the long tail, it can grow to over 40 cm (16 inches).
Its likes habitat with thick shrub cover. Unlike most cuckoos, it constructs its
own nest and raises its own young. The male does most of the construction, incubation and feeding of young.
It eats lizards, snakes, frogs, insects, mice, eggs and small birds.
