The Scarlet-rumped Cacique is native to southern Central America and northwestern South America.
Some subspecies may be split to full species status.
A peek of the often hidden scarlet rump. It has mainly black, glossy plumage with a scarlet rump.
It also has blue eyes and a long, pointed, pale yellow beak.
Male and female have similar plumage but the male's is brighter and he is larger. Juveniles are brownish with orange rumps.
