The nominate subspecies of Village Weaver is prevalent in West Africa from Senegal to Cameroon.
The subspecies P. c. bohndorffi shown on this page is prevalent in East and some of Central Africa, including
Southern Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, northern D. R. Congo and CAR.
It seems to have less-red eyes - sometimes looking black and sometimes pink.
The male's woven nest is similar.
The female, seen here supplementing nesting material, seems to have a darker beak.
