The Yellow-crowned Bishop, also called Golden Bishop and Napoleon Weaver, is a weaver bird native to sub-Saharan Africa.
The first bird top left is certainly the male Yellow-crowned Bishop in annual breeding plumage, showing its yellow crown and full black chest and front.
The other birds shown above and below appear to have different plumage, particularly the yellow chest (but also black behind the eye), but are identified as
Euplectes afer.
Does the male breeding plumage of the three subspecies differ?
Or is one of these another species?
The female all-season and male non-breeding plumage of the Yellow-crowned Bishop looks similar to that of the Red Bishop.
