The female is light brown with a lighter underside and pink-brown beak. They are native to south and east Africa.

Like most other weaver birds, the male weaver constructs a suspended nest protected from the elements and from predators by an entrance in the base, - the one above still incomplete. The complex nest is woven from grasses, reeds and shreds of palm leaves. The female then lines it with soft grasses and down.
