American Yellow Warbler Setophaga petechia

The American Yellow Warbler breeds through most of North America and winters through Central America and northern South America.

It has many subspecies throughout its range, with varying amounts of rufous-brown on the head of the breeding male, divided into 3 groups: American Yellow (above), Golden and Mangrove warblers.

The Mangrove (Yellow) Warbler, S. p. bryanti, above lives in mangrove swamps in the south of the range. The breeding male has a distinctive full rufous head. All photos on this page were taken by Alexandra Makhnina.
