The Wattled Starling comes mainly from eastern and southern Africa. The breeding male (above) is generally grey
with black wing-tips and tail. It has an un-feathered face and head, mainly black with a cream or yellow bald crown, plus black wattles on its chin.
The crown will turn more yellow and the wattles will grow longer.
Above is a leucistic breeding male with white instead of grey plumage and a bald yellow crown.
The non-breeding male has a mainly feathered head and face with small yellow bald patch behind its eyes; it has no wattle.
The female and juveniles (top left in second picture above) have no wattles, fully-feathered heads and have dark brown wing-tips and tail.
