Chestnut-tailed Starling/ Grey-headed Mynah Sturnia malabarica (prev. Temenuchus malabaricus)

The Chestnut-tailed Starling, also called the Grey-headed Myna/Mynah, is native to India and Southeast Asia. The subspecies to which the scientific name was first given is from the Malabar region of India. It has a white head and is sometimes treated as a full species: the White-headed Mynah - Sturnia (malabarica) blythii (above centre and right; a name which can be confusing with the very different White-headed Starling - Sturnia erythropygia or Sturnus erythropygius).

The chestnut under-tail is not always visible but the white/blue eye and the blue base of the yellow bill are also recognisable features with the grey back and whitish or light chestnut front.

The wing-tips are black and the front can be white (above centre) or light pink (above right), as can the head. The nominal subspecies (not shown) has a greyer head and more chestnut front.
