Unlike most other starlings where the plumage of the males and females is alike,
the male Amethyst Starling (above) is a beautiful iridescent violet or purple with white underside while the female
(below) is brown and thrush-like.

Also called the Violet-backed Starling, they are native to sub-Saharan Africa.
The amethyst or violet hue varies in the light and can look more purple or even crimson.
