The Common Shama, also called the White-rumped Shama, is native to South and Southeast Asia.
The male, above, is glossy black with a rufous orange belly/vent and an extremely long black tail with white under-tail.
The female is dark charcoal grey with a lighter orange belly and shorter (but still long) tail.
Unlike the Whydah, of which the male also grows an even longer black tail, the long tail of the Shama is all year round plumage not just breeding plumage.
