The Red-fronted Serin, also called Fire-fronted Serin, is native to high altitude regions
of the Caucasus and Central Asia, including the Tian Shan and Indian Himalayas.
They come lower down and flock with other finches in winter.
Alexandra Makhnina took these photos in winter in a park in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The serins were flocking with siskins and (confusingly) some redpolls in the park.
The juvenile and first winter sub-adult have a brown head rather than the dark charcoal
with bright red forehead of the adult.
