The Himalayan Rubythroat, previously called the White-tailed Rubythroat (then including the Chinese),
as its name indicates is native to the Himalayas and high altitude foothills.
Like the related Siberian Rubythroat and Bluethroat, it belongs to the Old World flycatcher family,
specifically the chats, together with the Nightingale (pre-2010 same genus) and the red-breasted (European) Robin.
Photos on this page were taken in Kazakhstan by Alexandra Makhnina.
The Siberian Rubythroat doesn't have the white tail base and ends that the Himalayan (previously
White-tailed) has. Shown is the subspecies C. p. ballioni of the mountains of Central Asia.
