The Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, also called the Rufous Bush Robin or Chat (but not the Rufous-tailed Robin which is a different, Siberian bird),
is larger than a robin and more thrush-sized. The song is also thrush-like.
The breeding range is from southern Europe to Central Asia/Pakistan, with those from colder areas wintering in Africa/India.
The similar African Scrub Robin is treated as a separate species.
Habitat is arid, open country with scrub. Male and female have similar plumage. Juveniles are paler.
The rufous tail with black and white tips is raised as a warning or fanned.
The photos were taken at an oasis in the Kzylkum Desert, Kazakhstan, by Alexandra Makhnina.
