The Black Redstart is native to much of Eurasia. The subspecies Eastern Black Redstart is native to Central Asia
from the Tian Shan region to Mongolia.
These photos were taken by Alexandra Makhnina in Kazakhstan (Tian Shan).
The male, shown, has a red belly (not as bright as the Common Redstart and without its white brow) rather than the charcoal belly
of the nominal subspecies. The female is similar to the nominal.
The subspecies Southeastern Black Redstart (rufiventris, with its bright red belly reminiscent of the Common Redstart) is native
from the Himalayas (Tibet/NW China) through to India and Myanmar. Many thanks to Dr Harsha Vardhan Reddy for these two photos.
