Saddleback Philesturnus carunculatus
The Saddleback is a rare New Zealand wattlebird. It has a pink wattle on each side of its face, a black head, front and tail and a russet "saddle."
There are two subspecies: that of the North and of the South Island - pictures here are of the South Island subspecies
