Liocichlas

The Omei (also Emei) Shan Liocichla, Liocichla omeiensis, also boringly called the Grey-faced Liocichla, is a rare, shy little bird from the mountain forests of Sichuan, China.

It looks a little like the Pekin Robin (to which it is related, although a different genus) with similar red wing markings but without the yellow/orange breast.

It also looks similar to the Bugun Liocichla, a related bird from the same area described only in 2006 and of which only 3 breeding pairs (of around a dozen individuals) are known in the world.

The Red-faced Liocichla, Liocichla phoenicea, is a forest bird with a large natural range from northeastern India, Bangladesh, the Himalayas, China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. The breeding male has a more yellow-/olive-grey front and the female a more grey front.

The Scarlet-faced Liocichla, Liocichla ripponi, was previously classed as a subspecies of the Red-faced but has recently been made a separate species. Its range covers forests of Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and part of southern China. The breeding male has a more yellow/olive front and the female a more grey front.

The Taiwan Liocichla, Liocichla steerii, also called Steere's Liocichla, is endemic to montane forests of Taiwan.
