The Orange-bellied Leafbird is native to the central and eastern Himalayas and foothills
including part of southeast Asia.
Like all leafbirds, their colouring is designed to blend in with the trees they inhabit.
The Orange-bellied male can have a green back (usually) or a blue-green (shown) depending on their diet of
insects, spiders and nectar.
The female, above centre, is greener and more camouflaged. All leafbirds, particularly the males
of the more colourful ones such as the Orange-bellied, are at risk from over-trapping as cage and aviary songbirds and
are becoming rarer in their former habitats.
