Juncos are part of a group of birds referred to as New World sparrows although they are not closely related to sparrows. The Dark-eyed Junco is native to much of North America. These photos were taken by Keith Wood in Newfoundland, Canada, where they are resident all year, but in some other regions they are migratory. Above left/centre is a female and right the sparrow-like juvenile.
