This finch-like tanager has the unfortunate name of Dull-coloured Grassquit, one of some half a dozen grassquits.
It is native to forests of the northwestern part of South America.
Male, female and juvenile have a similar appearance, with slightly paler underparts than upperparts.
There are 4 regional subspecies, 3 of which have a lighter lower mandible (distinguishing them from other, similar female seedeaters);
the T.o. haplochroma subspecies of part of Colombia and Venezuela has a wholly dark bill.
