The Taiga Flycatcher, also called the Red-throated Flycatcher, is native to Siberia and south to Mongolia.
It was until recently classed as a subspecies of the Red-breasted Flycatcher of Europe through to western Central Asia. In recent
years it has been expanding its range to eastern Kazakhstan, where these photos were taken by Alexandra Makhnina.
(Although it is a passage migrant in eastern Kazakhstan to and from its wintering grounds in India,
the photos were taken in mid summer.)
Only the adult male has the red throat they are named for. The adult female has a reddish wash on the flanks
and a white throat.
