Owl/Double-barred Finch Taeniopygia bichenovii

The Owl Finch, also called the Double-barred Finch, owes both names to the appearance of its front. They are native to northern and eastern Australia.

Male and female adults have similar plumage. The nominal subspecies has a white belly and rump. A rarer subspecies has a dark brown or black rump.
