The brightly-coloured Gouldian Finch, also called Lady Gouldian Finch after the wife of the bird artist John Gould,
is native to northern Australia.
Unusually for finches, both males and females are brightly-coloured, although the males have brighter colours
- brighter purple rather than dull mauve and brighter yellow and green. Juveniles are brown.
Faces can be black, red or orangey yellow in the wild, on either males or females; further colours have been developed in captivity.
Some, like the bird above centre, have a white chest.
The alien with antennae.
Female plumage.
The pointed tail.
They are a docile, flocking species.
