The Crimson Finch is native to northern Australia and southern New Guinea. Only the breeding male has the red front
with white-spotted flank. The female has a red face but a pale grey front. There are two subspecies, the Black-bellied and the White-bellied.
They live in grassland, including around human habitation, and can be extremely aggressive, particularly
male aggression to other red-coloured birds - but he seems to be getting on OK with these Red-throated Parrotfinches.
