Red Avadavat Amandava amandava

The Red Avadavat, also called Red Munia and the Strawberry Finch, is a weaver finch native to parts of South and Southeast Asia.

The breeding male develops bright strawberry red and black/brown plumage with white spots (photo above left by Dr Harsha Vardhan Reddy in India). He moults to brown plumage outside the breeding season. The female is mid-pale brown with a plain, pale underside and brightens to a slightly more orange colour when breeding.
