The Asian Fairy Bluebird is one of three species in genus Irena.
Blackbird-sized, it is native to parts of South and Southeast Asia including the Philippines (which also has the Philippine Fairy Bluebird).
Male and female have different plumage.
The male, above, is black with a thick, light blue band from brow to nape, light blue back, rump, vent, upper wings and upper tail. He has red irises.
The female, above collecting nesting material, is mainly greenish blue with black wing edges and tail tip.
She has red or brownish-red irises.
Juveniles are similar but with brown irises.
