The Malaysian Pied Fantail is one of several species of Fantail in the Australasia-Pacific region.
Both male and female can fan their long tails out like peacocks.
Fanning the tail helps in their acrobatic short flights to catch flying insects. It may also help in
territorial displays. The bristly face also helps catch insect prey.
The Malaysian Pied Fantail is native to subtropical and tropical forest across the Malay Peninsula, Thailand,
parts of Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines.
It is not a shy bird, visiting parks and gardens as well as forest.
