The Yellow-crowned Gonolek is one of two species of Gonolek, a Bushshrike (previously classed with shrikes). It is
also called a Barbary Bushshrike (previously Barbary Shrike). It is resident from Gambia/Senegal in West Africa via DR Congo through to Ethiopia in the east.
It is a skulking bird of dense undergrowth with shrike-like eating habits.
Both male and female adult are colourful with similar plumage and monogamous. Juveniles have muted plumage.
