The Nightingale, also called the Common Nightingale to distinguish from the similar Thrush Nightingale, is native to
much of Europe through to south Central Asia and migrates to sub-Saharan Africa in winter.
It is well-known for its beautiful song. It inhabitats bushes and scrub and nests low down. Photos
on this page were taken by Alexandra Makhnina in southern Kazakhstan (and may be of the Eastern golzii subspecies).
