The Skylark, also called Eurasian Skylark, is a smallish, brown, streaky bird visually similar to several other larks and pipits.
It has a small crest which can be raised when excited . . .
. . . and white edges to its tail in flight. It is prevalent through most of Europe and Asia and mainly resident.
Some Skylarks migrate south in winter, especially east Asian birds.
Skylarks nest on open ground in fields and on heaths.
The male Skylark is famed for his hovering song, when he climbs some 50 metres or more and
hovers for several minutes while warbling continuously.
