I would not normally put whole peanuts out for birds, except in a mesh feeder, to avoid choking smaller birds,
but these on the bird-table were a special treat for the Jay.
It picked up each one up and threw it back into the mouth.
With a full "crop" (chin/cheeks) of peanuts, the Jay then went away to bury each one, remembering each hiding place.
The Jay buries acorns in a similar way (but one at a time rather than several), propagating oak trees with those it doesn't retrieve.
Some 4 to 6 peanuts on a single visit.
